I was asked by one of the ladies in our SCA group to do this project for her. She had this locket and she wanted me to make inserts for it. Since miniature portraits cost a bundle to have painted she decided having the initials of her son and husband done in calligraphy would be a good way to fill the locket. I had some scraps of vellum so I designed these initials and did them in waterproof ink on the vellum, and then painted the "D" (for Deinol) red and the "W" (for Woolly) blue. I also added a few highlights in gold. (Not the real stuff, because I wasn't that ambitious!)
