This scroll was created for Lady Eleanora the Tilemaker's Award of Arms. I was asked to do the scroll a week before the event; I don't usually do them on such short notice but given who was asking, and the fact that I've done commisioned work for Lady Eleanora before and wanted to do her scroll, I accepted. The "O" is a fanciful interpretation of a medieval tilemaker's kiln, which would have been made of bricks. The "yez" in the first word "Oyez" is gilded in 24K Cennini-weight gold leaf which I purchased at Pennsic XXX, gilded on top of PVA. That worked pretty well and got nice and shiny -- pretty convenient if inauthentic. I didn't want to chance having a gesso failure with such a fast-approaching deadline! The remainder of the gold is Holbein gold gouache, and the rest of the paint is Winsor & Newton gouache, all on Arches 140 lb. hot-press paper. I used Higgins Black Magic for the ink; that stuff is really nice and black!
