This scroll was made to award to the Bhakaili Champion of Arts and Sciences, a competition won by Baroness Genevieve Charbonneau, whose splendid entries included a lovely collection of illuminations and some beautiful garb.
This piece started out as one of my "learning to gild" pieces, and is the first scroll I've produced with actual gold leaf on it, using garlic as a base for the triangles on the left side, gum ammoniac as the base for the initial, and gesso for the leaves. The ink is oak gall, and the paint is Winsor & Newton gouache.
